Proposal Fun

No, neither of us will be heading to the chapel anytime soon, but we did write a proposal recently. Though I (Sara) write this, I think I can say this for the both of us: being done with the proposal is a HUGE relief. We wrote a 5 page proposal, which Sarah initially thought would "write itself", for the Wisconsin IDEA Fellowship (WIF). WIF supports community service, whether local, national or international. We had to include a detailed budget, a basic outline of our activities while there, our goals etc. I'm working on making it an attachment to this blog, but it'll be a slow process I'm sure. Anyway, it ended up not writing itself...strangely enough. We met with writer instructors, grant committee members, peer reviewers, advisors, each other (maybe more than either one of us would have liked :)) It was a process. A long process that consumed all of our freetime for awhile. However, regardless of the outcome we both are thankful for the long term effect of the proposal writing process. We have a much clearer idea of our goal and mission traveling to Khayelitsha, and have set up a better communication foundation with the center in Khayelitsha itself. It has also given us the opportunity to learn how to write a solid grant proposal, which hopefully will come in handy in our futures. Now we sit and wait for the results...
